Course Contents

Creating change, although necessary, is not easy. To reduce complexity as much as possible, we propose a journey in three steps.

Sustainable Development: a real utopia?

The idea of Sustainable Development was born to reconcile the contradictory demands of development and the environment. In this section, we will assess the debates and controversies surrounding development goals and strategies, environmentalism and Sustainable Development, to better understand the challenge we face.

Mapping reality: where we are?

We will talk about culture, patterns of production, consumption and distribution, the rules of the game, civil society, social relations and the person. In this section, we will map reality to assess where are the patterns of unsustainability.

Mapping reality: points of change

How does change happen? What should be changed: ideas, behaviors, or rules; patterns of production, consumption or distribution? What is your role, as a person (or as a company), in creating change toward Sustainable Development? This section aims to explore these questions.

This course is for sustainability, social justice and democracy, which means it is not merely theoretical. In fact, it is a science-based, problem-focused course that aims to create effective change.

How it works

Each lesson combines short videos, images, text, discussion, and activities (both theoretical and practical) to enhance your learning journey.

  • Multimedia Classes

A mixture of short videos, images, short and long text devoted to present the proposed themes.

  • Exercises (both theoretical and practical)

We learn better when we exercise. So, we propose different kinds of exercises for you to dig deep into what you’ve learned and make connections with your own condition and possibilities for change.

  • Dialogue Space

The community aspect of this course is something we really value. This space offers you the opportunity to post questions and comments and discuss ideas presented in class. This will allow space for interaction and exchange of ideas among all participants.

  • Recommendation of extra material

Books, articles and/or videos will be indicated for the deepening in the topics covered.
